I collaborated with business units in the U.S. and Canada to manage water-related risks. My technical and regulatory guidance helped teams developing and operating projects optimize water supply and waste disposal activities, while balancing environmental and financial responsibilities. I led and supported various groundwater investigation and monitoring programs for upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas facilities, and provided subject matter expertise for sites managing contaminant impacts to surface water and groundwater. I managed regulatory applications related to water sourcing and disposal, and participated in industry working groups on various groundwater-related issues (eg. CAPP and COSIA). I chaired a multidisciplinary committee to manage risk from emerging contaminants used in emergency response, working closely with emergency management, process safety, legal, and environmental operations staff. External stakeholder engagement and risk communication were parts of my job as well, working with regulators, landowners, peer companies, and community groups to build relationships and improve ESG performance while advancing the interests of the company.

As a hydrogeologist on the corporate Water Team, I provided technical guidance and led water initiatives related to project development, regulatory compliance, risk management, and sustainable water management for Husky assets across North America. My role continued in a similar capacity after Husky’s integration with Cenovus in January 2021.

At Matrix I managed projects, wrote technical reports, and conducted field work for a variety of groundwater projects, mostly in the oil sands area of Alberta. I was the hydrogeology technical lead and author for environmental impact assessments, regulatory applications, compliance reports, and aquifer investigations. I managed many field programs as well as projects involving complex datasets, multi-disciplinary technical specialists, and evolving client priorities. Matrix gave me opportunities to present at several water and hydrogeology conferences throughout Canada, as well as honing my communication, organization, and client service skills to become an effective project manager.

My primary role with Intera (now Geofirma) was supporting site characterization for a Deep Geologic Repository for nuclear waste, through field work (drilling programs), geochemical and geologic data analysis, and technical writing. Additional work included conducting regulatory groundwater, surface water, and soil monitoring programs and Phase II investigations in the National Capital Region.
