Identified mutations in a stress granule protein that promote survival during splicing inhibition - Utilized confocal microscopy to investigate the effect of splicing inhibition on the subcellular localization and aggregation of stress granule components - Analyzed the effect of splicing inhibition and mutant stress granule proteins on nutrient signaling and survivalProject 2: Analysis of intragenic mutations that rescue pre-mRNA splicing activity of a mutant DEAH-box ATPase. - Utilized molecular cloning and site-directed mutagenesis to generate mutations that rescue the splicing function of a mutant DEAH box ATPase splicing factor. - Analyzed RNA expression and pre-mRNA splicing using in vitro splicing assays, quantitative RT-PCR, Northern blotting using radiolabeled oligonucleotides and in vitro transcribed probes, and next generation sequencing. Supervised five undergraduate researchers in experimental design and execution of independent research projects
