About Samantha Marshall

I am a silver medallist in swimming at both the Commonwealth Games and World Championships. More recently I enjoy playing community footy for my local AFL club, and using my skills and experience to break down barriers to women in sport by undertaking an industry PhD with Basketball Australia at La Trobe University.I have a deep passion for sport after competing at the highest level, and loves the way sport can bring people together, improve physical, mental and social health, and create a strong sense of community. Previously I worked to make sure as many people as possible are able to play sport, particularly those with disabilities as AAA Play Manager in Victoria and for people who were experiencing disadvantage as Reclink Australia Sports Coordinator. These experiences demonstrated to me the significant gender and socioeconomic inequities in sport and society more broadly, and addressing these is what drives my work. I have strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, as well as good communication and presentation skills developed through research and working in industry. I use these skills and my research into the barriers that women face in sport to help more women discover the benefits of participation in competitive and/or social sport at all levels through strategy and policy.
