Samantha Álvarez is a Rio Grande Valley (RGV) native and a transfer student interested in double majoring in History and Ethnicity, Race, and Migration. Before transferring to Yale, Samantha attended her first year at the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), where she originally planned to intersect passions in communication and business to amplify Latine voices. Yet, through courses taken at UT Austin, Samantha found a newly established interest in economics and political science and overall topics of immigration reform, public policy, and political theory. This intellectual curiosity led her to look into a top-notch liberal arts education to heighten her knowledge and drive for Latine empowerment, cultural engagement, and social justice, directing her toward applying to the Yale Transfer Program.
