HELP uses specially trained volunteers to maintain physical and cognitive functioning and decrease confusion for older patients who are at high risk of delirium while in the hospital. This program is available to seniors throughout the hospital and some of the services provided include: daily visits, feeding assistance,therapeutic activities, early exercise and sleep enhancement without medications.

The Child Hunger Corps is a two-year national service program designed to increase the capacity and capability of Feeding America’s member food banks to execute programs targeted towards the alleviation of child hunger. The program aims to increase the number of nutritious snacks and meals served to children in need in local communities across the country.As a member of the third cohort of Child Hunger Corps members I was placed at Good Shepherd Food Bank for a two year service term with a goal to expand access to food insecure children in Maine. In the 2013-1014 school year, I helped to grow the impact of Child Hunger Programs in the state of Maine by over 600%, providing 318,539 meals through our School Pantry and BackPack Sites. During the 2011 – 2012 School Year, prior to my employment, Good Shepherd Food Bank raised $90,000 for child hunger programming. During the 2013 – 2014 school year, that grew by about 300% to $367,000 raised to eliminate child hunger. Over the past two years, $105,000 in grants and corporate gifts received have been a direct result of my statewide needs assessment of child hunger in Maine.
