For the third year of my degree in International Business Economics I undertook a year in industry with Microsoft. My role in the Business Development and Support Unit allowed me a great insight into the organisation and a real chance to get involved in many different projects as well as own some of the initiatives within the business.During my time with Microsoft I attended courses for presentation skills and cross-boundary collaboration which allowed me to become more effective in each of these. I was also able to develop my skills in project management, team work and problem solving. A key part of my role was effective communication throughout Europe, Middle East and Asia whilst also working with colleagues from the US. Through working with fellow colleagues and vendors in different countries I gained increased interpersonal awareness, as such improving my relationship management skills.My year allowed me excellent levels of exposure to real business issues and activities. I also made use of my time to gain Microsoft Office qualifications and learn how to use and create tools such as Microsoft SharePoint.

Un-paid work experience within the Public Health Sector of the SHA - through this role I also reported to the Sustainable Development Unit.My time with the SHA gave me the opportunity to improve my time management and project development skills through developing project plans and delivery methods. I was also able to develop my communication skills with a heavy focus on relationship management and the need for report writing as a result of research and assessment.
