CurrentI designed, validated and performed cell-based assays for exploratory drug discovery projects for the cardiovascular discovery biology group.I was part of a team which searched for new molecular targets for drug discovery using novel and nifty informatics tools.I spent considerable time tending to the logistical issues of running a laboratory, including troubleshooting instrumentation hardware and software, serving on various interdepartmental committees and organizing our department's annual capital equipment needs.In my final years at BMS I was part of a team in Cardiovascular and Fibrosis drug discovery that focused on the translational aspects of making new medicines. I helped put together the folks who have knowledge and expertise discovering and validating potential biomarkers, both internally and externally, with the folks running the discovery program and the folks who will eventually run the clinical program to establish and begin working on a translational plan which enhances the success rate of our pipeline. I interacted with lots of different groups within the company, representing all stages of the development of a new medicine, and engaged many academic labs, CROs and vendors outside BMS . It was an interesting, if somewhat different assignment that grew out of my long-time fascination with target identification and mechanism of action studies, since many of the techniques and analysis tools are quite similar.
