My name is Sam Homer and I am an Architect with a passion for elegant, creative and practical solutions to design problems. My work aims to be sensitive to the needs of the people using it and the qualities of the environment in which it sits. I have a particular interest particular interest in offsite solutions and passive design strategies, both of which are necessary to meet the twin challenges facing the Construction sector today: achieving Net Zero Carbon (both Operational & Embodied), and integrating Modern Methods of Construction into project delivery. I work as an Associate Architect at Stride Treglown in Bristol, as part of the Education team. My work is focused in the School sector; over the course of my career I have lead multiple Secondary School projects from the initial CEM process through to Handover. Some highlights include working as Project Architect on Thames Park Secondary School with Bowmer & Kirkland, the first Secondary School to be delivered through the DfE's Modern Methods of Construction (MMC1) Framework, and leading Burnt Mill Academy, a Net Zero Carbon in Operation secondary school & swimming pool in Harlow, Essex. I work closely with our Tier 1 Contractor clients and their supply chain in developing Framework-level approaches to School design, integrating challenges such as achieving Net Zero and Embodied carbon targets, delivering DfMA and Platform design, developing factory-friendly detailing and ensuring consistency in meeting the DfE Output Specification. I also advise our other teams working on School projects across the country on design and delivery.
