Sam King started as a Claim Examiner in the Workers' Compensation Department. Mr. King was quickly promoted to Claims Supervisor, and then Claims Manager. He then was promoted to Director of the SIU and Fraud Unit for Travelers Insurance Property Casualty and Workers' Compensation Western Region. In this role, Mr. King established Travelers first Anti-Fraud Unit solely focused on identifying and prosecuting insurance fraud. Due to the success of the the unit, Travelers became known among only a few insurance companies as the foremost expert in prosecuting insurance fraud. Mr. King was also on the very first California Department of Insurance, Workers' Compensation Fraud Advisory Board, and chaired the Department's first SIU Training Committee, publishing the first insurer/regulator SIU training program for the insurance industry.

Sam King, worked as a full-time Police Officer, working first as a Patrol Officer and then as a Detective where he investigated and conducted follow up on criminal cases. Performed arrests and developed information on suspects. Prepared cases and testified for prosecution. Conducted interviews of suspects, investigated leads, witnesses and victims, performed surveillance, undercover operations, and served warrants.In 1982, Mr. King was assigned to work with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administrations, CAMP program targeted on major narcotic suspects. Mr. King received extensive training on anti-narcotic enforcement. In 1984, Mr. King was assigned to work with LAPD and LASO to provide security details for the United States Olympics being held in the Los Angeles.Mr. King received the California Commission on POST Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced certificates. Mr. King also received numerous certifications for specialized training at Rio Hondo Police Academy and the Los Angeles Police Academy.
