My project seeks to determine the molecular function of a disease causing deubiquitinase, OTUD6, using Drosophila melanogaster. I used CRISPR-Cas9 to create catalytic dead, loss of function, and endogenously tagged OTUD6 fly lines. Using these mutants I have found that OTUD6 binds to the ribosome and deubiquitinates key ribosomal subunits to regulate translation.

I rotated in the Ge lab at UC Merced. During this rotation I designed, cloned, and transfected a CRISPR construct to knock out the Phosphodiesterase 4D interacting protein (Pde4dip) in two embryonic cell lines. Several loss of function mutants were recovered, and the cell lines were used to characterize the role of Pde4dip in the Hedgehog signal transduction pathway. This research has been published
