Sammy is an Associate Director in Arup. With 18 years experience in all phases of design and construction of long span cable-stayed bridges, sea crossings and viaducts around the world, Sammy has led teams for feasibility study, detailed design, independent checking and procurement/contract documentation of bridges.Notable projects include Temburong Bridge in Brunei, Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge in Philippines and Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement in California.On Temburong Bridge (27km sea-crossing+swamp forest viaduct), Sammy has played a major role from the concept and feasibility stage, through detailed design, procurement of construction contracts until the end of construction. He was project coordinator and coordinated all multi-disciplinary inputs during the feasibility study. During detailed design stage, he was deputy team leader as well as bridge design lead for two of the packages.On Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge (30km sea-crossing), Sammy was the deputy team leader for the feasibility study which included concept and preliminary design of the crossing, navigation studies, cost estimation, economic appraisal and environmental and social impact assessment. The bridge is currently under detailed design stage.On Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement, Sammy was the substructure team leader and developed the concept and tender design of the cable stayed bridges and approach viaduct. The cable stay bridge incorporates seismic isolation into the design in order to perform elastically in severe earthquake shaking. The tender was ranked the best on both quality and cost. Arup subsequently completed the detailed design and served as the Engineer of Record for the cable-stayed bridge.Sammy also served major roles for the following major bridges/crossings- Male'-Thilafushi link in Maldives (6km) - specimen design, contract documentation, procurement support- Samal Island-Davao City Connector Project in the Philippines (4km)- contract documentation- Seac Pai Van LRT Viaduct in Macau (1km) - detailed design- Cao Lanh Bridge in Vietnam (2km) - independent checking- Penang Second Bridge in Malaysia (16km) - independent checkingSammy graduated from Imperial College London and worked in UK for 4 years. Then he worked in Arup's Hong Kong office for 13 years and relocated to London in 2021. Throughout his career, he has worked on projects in many countries.
