About Sam Prescott

Now:I am an experienced communications and public relations practitioner, available now for contract and consulting roles. I operate independently under Sixteenth Letter Ltd, as well as working with clients on a project basis through similar consultancies.Sixteenth Letter has worked directly with The Department of Conservation, Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa, The Wellington City Mission, The Nature Conservancy, the Stroke Foundation, Wellington Water, Reconnecting Northland, DIA, Ministry of Education, the Education Review Office, Wellington City Council, InternetNZ, Sky TV, FairWay Resolution Services and ESR (via Maven - communications and photography services to promote the WellKiwis influenza study). Then:In February 2017, I moved on from a lead role at SenateSHJ, focusing on its public sector and digital practice. During that time, I led communications and stakeholder engagement strategy, workshop facilitation and the development of digital communications strategy. I have also worked with the country's top social marketing behaviour change professionals and researchers on major public sector programmes. From 2017-2020, alongside retaining my own clients and projects, Sixteenth Letter worked as a consultant to Maven.I am an adept writer, editor and strategic thinker who values long lasting relationships with my clients. I have experience managing issues and the media under high pressure, having worked on high-profile crisis management programmes in the public sector.I have a strong understanding of digital media, content curation, social media strategy, problem definition and communications risk analysis. I'm an expert at helping public and private sector clients engage more meaningfully with their stakeholders and really understand their operating environment through stakeholder, media and digital communications audits.Other previous clients (across various roles) include Ministry for Primary Industries, ACC, the New Zealand Transport Agency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Payments NZ, Stand Children's Services, BP, WorkSafe NZ, Healthcare of NZ, Google, Ministry of Education, Plunket, Clemenger BBDO and many others. Before joining SenateSHJ, I was a Senior Communications Advisor at the Department of Building and Housing for four years. My work as a videogame journalist has appeared on the Escapist and Techday, in STACK Magazine and on IGN.com, where I am still a (very) occasional contributor. For a number of years, I was a Senior Writer, and later Editor, at NZGamer.com.
