CNV and NHEJ analysis in the Department of Pathology

o Conduct experimental studies and perform data analysis, collect and process biological specimens, optimization of DNA/RNA extraction from challenging tissue types, cDNA synthesis, Real-time PCR assays/arrays, bioanalyzer, ELISA, and proteomic profiling, and Next Generation Sequencing.o Collaborate with orthopedic, radiation oncology, and surgery departments to determine biological research requirements; develop and implement scientific processes necessary to fulfill research requirements. o Determine research and scientific techniques and align methods with predetermined requirements; establish services and plans aligned with scientific research needs. o Manage Quality Control documentation of tissue specimens and equipment assets.o Complete operational functions in support of department-related functions; create and maintain databases for material transfer agreements, assist with CAP certification, assist budget preparation, order supplies, and validate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.o Train staff, students, and residents in proper laboratory techniques, procedures, and precautions.

• Conducted various molecular techniques, including genotyping, removing and preparing brain, eye, and liver tissue for DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, Northern blots, Southern blots, and Western blots, restriction enzyme digestion, plasmid DNA transformation, tissue culture, and purification.• Analyzed large datasets in Matlab and Excel using complex nesting formulas, statistical analysis, and macros.• Installed hardware and software platforms for molecular application as well as physiological applications that recorded EEG, temperature, ECG, and activity in rodents used in scientific experiments. • Gathered and analyzed scientific data, maintained and troubleshot laboratory equipment, and trained other lab students and staff in proper equipment use and scientific procedures.• Managed general lab maintenance functions, compliance, preparing solutions, ordering supplies, updating lab records, contacting vendors, breeding and maintaining rat and mice colony, and training lab students. • Researched literature and data used for presentations in weekly and monthly lab meetings as well as publications.
