About Sam Sharp

I work at ODI Global researching contemporary challenges to democracy and civic space, and particularly how they manifest in emerging democracies. More generally, I look at how politics shape development challenges and how international actors can better work in adaptive and politically smart ways to navigate these dynamics. I have an MA in Governance, Development and Public Polict from the Institute of Development Studies, and a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University. My research experience includes academic and NGO environments, with experience designing and leading research projects and impact evaluations in multiple contexts, and with extensive experience of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Recent projects have explored how civil society navigate shifting civic spaces; the contribution of women’s movements to resisting attacks on democracy; and the politics that shape the role of social movements in democratic resilience. My policy work focuses on the implications for international democracy, civil society and governance support.I am always interested in research opportunities and contacts; if you have something relevant I encourage you to get in touch.

Listed skills include Economics, Politics, Research, Public Policy, and 11 others.
