I have completed my own MSc (by research) project with sponsorship from CELSA manufacturing Ltd based in Cardiff. The project consisted of investigating and improving the mechanical properties of the structural steel produced at the Cardiff site. The project involved working closely with CELSA and investigating how chemical composition and processing could be changed to improve the mechanical properties of the structural steel.

Ilminster, Somerset

I was given the opportunity to have a summer placement with Daido Industrial Bearings Europe, between my second and third year at university. I was shown in detail the manufacturing operations required to make the bi-metal bearings they produce such as the roll bonding process. I was placed into quality control and given my own project. The project consisted of improving their method of ultrasonic non-destructive inspection of their bearings by looking at the method, equipment and training. The method used ultrasonic waves to search for weak or off bonds between the bonded metals. During my time there I had to liaise with various departments from manufacturing to research and development and suppliers of the equipment.

Abercarn

I was employed as a Sales Assistant which consisted of dealing with customers on a daily basis and answering any queries on the products. I participated in the movement and monitoring of stock intake and output, including completing the paperwork so the stock movement could be monitored. From this I gained valuable skills in administration, and developed excellent organisational skills.
