In addition to leading the planning and teaching of the English curriculum to to large classrooms of 30+ students, my work on the JET Program has included Japanese interpretation at events and translation of COVID-19 pandemic related documents into English. I have carried out presentations for training seminars and dedicated time to planning for the yearly Hiroshima JET Skills Development Conference, local community presentations on multiculturalism, and one-to-one intercultural discussions on topics ranging from regional linguistics to LGBTQ+ sensitivity and awareness. During my time here, I have provided assistance to other JETs without Japanese language ability in emergency situations such as hospital visits where interpretation is needed, helping newer JETs with transition to life in Japan and teaching, as well as relaying vital COVID-19 pandemic information for residents that is not usually translated into English.
