I have been appointed as a Space Inspector under the Space Industry Regulations (SIR) with warrants under the Space Industry Act (SIA) and the Air Navigation Order (ANO).

As an Orbital Safety Analyst in the Space Engineering team, I undertake engineering and safety analyses, primarily focused on orbital activities as well as providing technical expertise on space missions, space debris and the sustainability of the orbital environment. I am an appointed Space Inspector under the Space Industry Regulations with responsibility for the monitoring and enforcement of UK Spaceflight Activity.My work involves providing expert technical judgement on the assessment of licence applications for UK space missions and performing independent analysis to improve understanding and verify applications. I also lead in the development of tools which allow the CAA to understand the interactions between UK spacecraft and the space environment to assess impact on safe operations, financial risk, and long-term sustainability.Additionally, I collaborate with external organisations across government and internationally. This involves providing domain and engineering expertise to support policy decisions. I am a member of the UK delegation to the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) and I represent the CAA on the Cross-Government Space Domain Awareness Coordination group.

Working within the cloud team as part of the scientific computing group I am responsible for investigating, developing and deploying new tools on Diamond's Kubernetes clusters to enable researchers to fully utilise Diamond’s available cloud computing resources. This work includes investigating and trialling different technologies and reporting on the most suitable options. I then lead on development of new tools, from defining the software architecture and creating proof of concept versions to writing production code and setting up pipelines for automated testing and deployment through Diamond’s Gitlab server.

I research how changes in the use of the space environment will impact the space debris population and how it is modelled. In particular, I am interested in understanding the suitability of current models for studying the long term evolution of the debris environment in the face of changing spacecraft design and operation.In the course of this study, I have developed my understanding of orbital mechanics while creating bespoke software to simulate the propagation, collision and fragmentation of spacecraft. By comparing the results of these simulations to real world observations, I have been able to understand the limits of our current models and analyse the impact of modern practices on the debris environment. During this time, I have been engaged in knowledge sharing with the Chief Engineer’s team at the UK Space Agency as they look to inform and develop national policy around innovative new concepts such as large-constellations, on-orbit servicing and active debris removal.I have been fortunate to participate in the last two meetings of the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) as part of the UK Space Agency delegation. This has allowed me to develop an international network of contacts from across academia and government agencies while engaging in high level discussions around the guidelines which will influence the next generation of international space debris policies and exchanging ideas and best practice for modelling the debris environment.As part of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Next Generation Computational Modelling, I undertook a year of taught modules to develop my computational engineering and research skills. I have since continued to develop my technical and professional skills through self-study and practice, including writing and presenting papers at several international conferences.

Working in an agile team of developers and testers building the next generation of Sky products, Sky Q, I was responsible for translating the requirements of the design team into actionable tasks for development and testing. This required me to think analytically to break down complex tasks and pre-emptively identify issues and apply my problem solving skills to find alternative solutions when the original design was incompatible with the existing software architecture.In this role I also tracked and analysed team performance which allowed me to provide accurate estimates of delivery timelines, manage stakeholder expectations and maintain the amount of work the team was committed to at a manageable level.

Working at Acturis I was responsible for developing electronically traded insurance products on our bespoke system for several large UK insurers as well as analysing product behaviour to provide management information, optimise performance and measure progress against key performance indicators.As part of a small but growing company there was opportunity for responsibility and I was able to take ownership of several large projects and manage key relationships with client product teams. Acting as the technical lead on projects, I provided technical expertise and assistance in requirement definition for client projects. This included involvement in the technical build of new products and system developments. Towards the end of my time at Acturis this led to me being the lead analyst on bids to develop our first international products with both German and Japanese insurers.I was also responsible for training and supervising junior colleagues.

I worked within the manufacturing and test engineering team at Ultra Electronics Controls in Greenford. My work involved manufacturing support including investigating and monitoring production non-conformances, test data analysis and verification, and the design of test equipment and tools using 3D auto-cad software. It also involved working with the continuous improvement team to map and improve business processes and helping to produce and deliver training on lean manufacturing techniques and problem solving.

I took part in two rotations with the Ultra Electronics businesses Sonar Systems and Controls

I spent 6 months working for the Sonar Systems Division prototyping signal processing algorithms. I created algorithms to identify signals in noisy data and find the location of an object travelling through an array of sonar buoys by modelling the propagation of sound waves through water.
