  • Red Rocks Community College
    Student Engagement & Retention Coordinator
Red Rocks Community College May 2024 - Present
    Lakewood, Colorado, United States
The Student Engagement and Retention office is new to RRCC. As its Coordinator, I work with a team of Student Success Coaches that care for a caseload of primarily incoming/first-generation/high-needs students each semester. Our primary goal is to help these students navigate campus life and find Academic Support. This is accomplished through in-depth conversations about their background, connecting them with campus resources, and providing regular checkups and more flexible appointments and drop-in schedules than what the RRCC Advising office can offer. Given that this is a new RRCC department, we are also responsible for building the system in which we track and support our caseload of students. We believe this department will alleviate some of the pressure that Academic Advisors feel to provide students with everything they need in a 45-minute appointment.
  • Red Rocks Community College
    Stem Leadership Academy Navigator
Red Rocks Community College Mar 2024 - Present
    Lakewood, Colorado, United States
The mission of the STEM Leadership Academy is to increase the retention and success of students of color at RRCC in STEM fields and to assist them in graduation/transfer to 4-year colleges. The goal is to further their success in STEM Professions. As the STEM LA Navigator, I am responsible for recruiting and supporting a cohort of 50 STEM LA students. I provide Academic, Financial Aid and Transfer Advising. I am also responsible for planning visits to local four-year universities (examples of past visits include visits CU Denver, CU Boulder, CSU, MSU, etc.), site visits to STEM Industries (examples of past visits include CableLabs, Northrop Grumman, United Launch Alliance, etc,) and events for STEM networking and community building. Some of my biggest accomplishments in planning events for STEM networking and community building include the SACNAS NDiSTEM conference in Phoenix, Arizona and the STEM+ Career Fair. For the SACNAS conference, I aided in planning for the event and I chaperoned the 8 STEM LA students who attended. The Career Fair was a collaboration I coordinated between STEM LA and other RRCC Departments including the Career Success Center, Honors, Mines Academy, TRIO and COSI. Together, we hosted 36 employers including Lockheed Martin, ULA and NREL. Nearly 200 RRCC students and community members attended this event.
  • Red Rocks Community College
    Pathway Advisor
Red Rocks Community College Jul 2022 - Mar 2024
    Lakewood, Colorado, United States
In my position as the Computer Information Technology Pathway Advisor at Red Rocks Community College, I am responsible for providing quality assistance to hundreds of current, incoming and prospective students. When it comes to advising, there is never a "one size fits all" solution. Whether a student is a recent high school graduate looking to earn a degree or a recent retiree wanting to pick up a hobby, every student has different needs and aspirations. That is why I do my best to provide individualized support to every student that I connect with. My day typically involves meeting with up to 8 students for in person or online appointments, answering emails and developing innovative advising strategies to ensure that our students are receiving the most accurate and up to date information available at Red Rocks. I accomplish this by working closely with other RRCC departments including Financial Aid, Student Records, Career Services, Assessments and many others.
