During the course of my studies I studied Urban Design specialisation modules. Through these I acquired new skills in using software packages such as Sketchup, City CAD, and Photoshop, as well as new skills in the design process and an understanding of what makes a good place. I achieved a distinction in several Urban Design modules and graduated with a distinction overall.

Over the summer of 2018 I undertook a paid internship at Arcus Consultancy Services, a multi-disciplinary renewable energy consultancy based in York and Glasgow. Whilst there I was involved in a very wide range of different projects and different elements of the planning process, from writing requests for pre-application planning advice, to writing design and access statements, to writing an appeal against a planning decision. I also carried out significant research tasks and worked with the other departments on a range of projects that required attention as and when necessary. Not only did this give me good experience of what good planning consultancy looks like, it also exposed me to the links between planning and other disciplines and helped me to appreciate the benefits of a holistic approach to project work.
