I used the lessons from rowing to develop a personal operating system for goal setting, discipline, and consistency. It even helped me win a national championship along the way!Graduated with an economic degree in 2017 and immediately got a job on Wall Street. I worked as an analyst, researching stocks for multi-million dollar clients. Given my track record in rowing, I thought building a fulfilling career would be easy. Put in the time and success will follow, right? Wrong.Stuck working 80 hour weeks, on the verge of burnout, I saw no end in sight. Was this really all that work had to offer? I spent two years grinding away at that routine until one day, after returning from a vacation (my first in two years), I was unceremoniously laid off.All that hard work just to be tossed aside? Never again. From that moment on, I devoted every waking moment to discovering a better path forward. I distilled my goal setting method into a system for career development. The results? Less than two months later I landed my dream job in Private Equity.
