About Sam Taylor

I don't believe in inevitability; the future can - and must - be designed and created. I want to play a role in creating a future that is environmentally sustainable, ecologically regenerative, and socially just.I started in research science, and am subsequently backed by 17 years in leadership and governance, including ESG principles and strategy, and implementation experience across not-for-profit, institutional, small business, and government sectors, as well as through private consulting in my own firm to more than 40 diverse local and national clients.More recently, I have focussed on strategic communication, rooted in behavioural psychology and ethics, with a view to understanding why people believe what they believe, and what motivates them to change and accept new perspectives.I have a deep passion for public service, and making the world a better place. This means thinking about the natural environment in every tiny aspect of what humans do, as well as relentlessly pushing for a broader vision for the future - this means big, bold projects - through a design-thinking lens and multidisciplinary, strategic planning frame.I currently work in executive coordination in the Australian Government. This brings together expertise in governance, critical thinking, people leadership, project delivery, business acumen and finance, and political nous.Outside of normal business hours, I also run my own consulting firm, and am developing a portfolio of several other ventures including end-of-trip facilities, two fashion labels, a lighting product, and an events advocacy company. I also study law in pursuit of a LLM at the Australian National University. In the meantime, I play netball, play the trumpet in a big band, and also the piano. I've been a surf life saver since I was 10, and enjoy running and swimming. I also have significant experience on the boards of several charities and other organisations, mostly related to ecological restoration and advocacy, urban planning, academia, and science, and linguistic/cross-cultural education. Most of all, I love meeting new people and connecting people together, learning about new ideas and perspectives, solving problems and making stuff happen together. Please reach out for a coffee!
