Commissioned in to the Royal Air Force in April 1990 aged 21. Currently a Group Captain (OF5) running a business unit of 500 personnel for MOD UK Strategic Command within in Cambridgeshire. I'm in my current post until Jun 23 and due to retire mid-2025 after what will be a superbly interesting, diverse and operationally focussed military career of more than 35 years. I've changed roles almost every 2 years, gaining a wide range of experience and skills managing large numbers of people, developing capabilities and delivering major projects with multi-million pound budgets. I've been lucky enough to work in the full range of military activity from planning to training with a major focus on ISR collection and analysis work. I've spent more than 5 years on Op deployments around the World principally Africa, Middle East, Asia and the Americas. Although a joint warfare officer with predominantly Counter-Insurgency, Counter-Terrorism and Humanitarian & Disaster Relief experience, I've also enjoyed exchange roles with partner agencies across government involving ISR and Counter-Narcotics.I have many interests from history through to practical things like woodwork, household maintenance and construction. I keep fit, run, swim and hill walk; my skiing is ungainly, but brave! I can sail and plan on getting a 'camper van of the sea' when time permits. Full clean driving license held since 1988.I live on the southern edge of the phenomenal Brecon Beacons, in my own house on top of a hill overlooking the Dare Valley Country Park, temptingly close to the best whisky distillery in Wales, with the amazing Gower Coast within 30 miles. My kids are both in their 20s and doing brilliantly in their chosen academic fields. I'm desperate to get another dog, but military life and long working hours/travel means it wouldn't be fair on the Pup just yet.
