I run a global team of senior technology folks (many are former CTOs and technical co-founders) who make strategic technical decisions across a large portfolio of acquired software companies. We rearchitect and revive these products on both a technical and feature level. This was a great role to see and learn from tons of examples of things done right, and wrong.

We built a Groupon-like technology platform, but that was entirely brandable by large existing publishers who wanted to get in on the group-buying action. In this role I:- Recruited a team of 40 employees across development, product management, sales, and support- Increased revenue over 50% each quarter- Sold and launched online commerce programs with notable TV brands (NBC, Fox, and Univision) and Radio stations (operated by Belo and Hearst).- Defined and launched a new online marketplace for the industry to buy and sell the inventory for group commerce sites.

In this role, I supported the integration of MessageOne's people and products into the Dell sales and engineering organization. I also created video-based sales and customer education content.

I was one of the technical co-founders and had many different roles as the company grew from 4 to over 250 people. My primary responsibilities were in Product Management and Sales Engineering:- Defined our earliest (MVP) product- Owned technical success and selection for all of our first sales- Build a Sales Engineering team- Trained 2 large channel partners (IBM and SunGard)- Ran the All Employee training program (M1 University)MessageOne was one of the first cloud-based email management services, helping customers handle the growing importance (and headache) of email high-availability and message archival. MessageOne was acquired by Dell Computer in April 2008.

I ran the technical Pre-Sales team that supported our enterprise sales team ($1M-$10MM opportunities) down to the mid-market ($250k-$1M). This required the creation of standard messaging to explain our technical differentiators (we used the TAS selling methodology), building custom technical demos, running POCs, and delivering on the "technical win" for the sales cycle.

In this role I did a LOT of org building and recruiting, building the engineering team for PcOrder.com (PCOR). I screened and interviewed over 1,000 developers and hired about 50. Our engineering team delivered simultaneous software releases across 4 distinct product offerings (and tech stacks). I spent approximately 25% of my time directly involved winning "big deals" in the field with the enterprise sales team. This is where I found my love of working directly with customers to deeply understanding their problems and needs. This is where I got the conviction that being an expert at the problem was the key to both selling customers and simultaneously gathering the right requirements and insights to drive back into the product itself, and the key success factor for great product managers.

Our 4-person team defined and built a commerce platform that extended the core "engines" of differentiated value for Trilogy (complex configuration & complex pricing) online. I learned a lot about customer-driven product management. Our first customer was a $4M relationship, and we generated over $10M in revenue in our first 2 years.
