Worked in the von Herrath Lab and performed experiments under the supervision of Post-Doctoral fellows on NIH-funded research projects. Primarily involved in projects focused on studying the immunopathology of type 1 diabetes (see publications for more info). Performed literature reviews, helped to plan experiments, presented results in lab meetings, and contributed to writing and revising research manuscripts for publication. Assisted with animal studies to test experimental drug candidates for the lab’s industry collaborator, Novo Nordisk.

Created excel pivot chart dashboards to track and visualize project headcount data, and implemented systems to compile project documentation. Helped project managers with project team meetings and take meeting minutes. Learned the drug development process and attended project review meetings to gain insight into R&D strategy and leadership decision-making.

Shadowed a research scientist. Observed and assisted with lab techniques including basic mouse handling, intracranial injections in mice, RNA extraction from tissue samples, and RT-qPCR.
