As a Bill Archer Fellow for the 2024 fall semester, I will be completing an internship with the Committee on Education and the Workforce in the U.S. House of Representatives as part of the internship requirement for the program.

As the Director of Communications for BBAM, a 501(c) non-profit organization in Austin, TX, I take on a leadership role in promoting our mission to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the community. BBAM is dedicated to mentoring and supporting high school minority students in their pursuit of higher education, providing the guidance and resources they need to navigate the path to college. I lead strategic communication efforts to increase the organization’s visibility and engagement across social media platforms, newsletters, and community outreach. By developing and implementing targeted marketing campaigns, I highlight our DEI initiatives and the transformative impact of our mentorship programs for high school students in the Austin area. I work closely with our team of college-student mentors to produce content that shares success stories, events, and educational resources, fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment. Additionally, I strengthen partnerships with local schools and community organizations, expanding access to college readiness resources for underrepresented students. I also oversee the creation of press releases, promotional materials, and event coverage, ensuring that our messaging aligns with our commitment to DEI and community engagement.

I will be delving into the fascinating intersection of developmental science, early childhood education, and social policy. My responsibilities include assisting with all aspects of the research process, from developing study protocols to data collection, cleaning, and analysis. I'll also be conducting thorough literature reviews, presenting our research at conferences, and contributing to grant reporting and writing. I'll be working in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment where we explore how Resilience and Adversity in Children’s Ecology (RACE) are linked to early life outcomes. As part of the RACE Lab, I'll be focusing on understanding the development of children in our racialized society.

As an intern at the Texas Education Alliance, I am immersed in the dynamic field of education market intelligence in Texas. Out of 4,220 students in my freshman class, I was 1 of 6 students elected to serve as a class senator in the University of Texas at Dallas student government. I attend weekly meetings and create, lead, and collaborate on all official University actions. I was appointed to the Student Affairs Committee where I lead substantive efforts through proposed legislation and planned events to promote the interests of the freshman class and promote student culture and engagement on campus. I collaborate with other student organizations to create and direct community related endeavors.
