Modeling and control of airport surface operations: Developed a new dynamical model for time-varying queuing networks and adapted the model to predict air traffic movements at major airports using real operational data that included historical flight tracks and flight schedules. The model was used to design algorithms to reduce traffic congestion at airports using optimal and robust control techniques. Fuel burn estimation using aircraft trajectories: Developed models to determine aircraft fuel burn using flight trajectories to analyse the environmental impacts of aviation. The model relies on state estimation using a multi-model smoother to extract acceleration events from noisy flight trajectories.The project was done in collaboration with MIT Lincoln Lab and the FAA.Analysis and Design of Trajectory-Based Operations: Developed models and optimization techniques to analyse trajectory-based operations — a new concept that is a paradigm shift in air traffic management that involves managing flights using four dimensional trajectories.

Developed a droplet-wall interaction model with the Combustion Aero Technology Development group. The wall film model was able to characterize the secondary jet atomization after wall impingement of a jet in cross flow.
