The Asset Strategy department is responsible for developing strategies for all assets required to implement the train timetable, both now and in the future. My team, consisting of two full-time equivalents (FTEs), focuses specifically on strategies for train drivers and conductors. In addition to managing my team, I am responsible for developing long-term strategic plans to ensure that NS has sufficient drivers and conductors to meet future timetables. I also oversee the strategic planning of training programs to accommodate the evolving requirements of a rapidly changing sector, including new trains, train traffic management systems, and operational procedures.

The Service and Operations (S&O) department is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our train services. This department encompasses all train personnel, including guards, drivers, and service staff—approximately 8.000 full-time equivalents (FTEs).In this role, I collaborated with various multidisciplinary teams to advise senior management on strategic issues related to train personnel. Key contributions include:- Developed a capabilities roadmap to guide the operational transformation and ensure focus on critical areas.- Led a multidisciplinary team to translate the company's vision and strategy into a comprehensive strategic plan for the training of train drivers.- Contributed to defining the direction for the department by working on the 'Masterplan S&O,' which was presented in a series of roadshows to all train drivers and guards.- Co-authored a formal request for advice to the Works Council regarding Driver Controlled Operation, a key element of our strategic initiatives.- Prioritized tactical tasks alongside staff members, ensuring alignment with broader strategic goals.- Additionally, I designed and facilitated workshops to enhance collaboration and gather input from both staff and the management team.

The NS Traineeship is a two-year program designed for young talent, focused on personal development and leadership skills. In addition to the comprehensive training provided, I held two distinct roles during this period.In my first year, I worked at NS Treinmodernisering in Haarlem, the division responsible for the refurbishment of trains. As the work package owner, I led the operational testing of a new type and brand of brake pads for the entire double-decker fleet (VIRM2/3). I coordinated a team of technical consultants, engineers, and mechanics to ensure successful implementation. These brake pads are now fully operational across the fleet.In my second year, I served as a project lead and business consultant in the innovation and testing department at NS. I led the project for ZitplaatsZoeker, an initiative aimed at providing passengers with real-time information on train occupancy by carriage. I oversaw the launch of a public tender (market consultation) for sensor technology, managing a budget of €10 million. Following the consultation, we concluded the tender process.

I served as the head exam trainer for mathematics and physics, providing additional support to groups of 6-12 pre-university students in different locations, who required extra training on all exam material.

Thesis title: 'Passing ship interaction: An assessment of MARIN's FlowInteraction module'

During my internship, I contributed to the development of a new automatic magnetic mooring system (DockLock), with two distinct phases:1) Safety Analysis: In the initial phase, I worked on hazard identification (HAZID) for the system, conducting a thorough safety analysis. Based on this, I provided strategic advice on the necessary steps to obtain safety certification. 2) Mechanical Design: In the second phase, I focused on the mechanics of the DockLock. This included numerical modeling of the system and the forces acting on it, defining design requirements, performing fatigue calculations using Miner’s rule, and researching the behavior of passive hydro-pneumatic springs.By the end of the internship, I delivered a numerical model of the DockLock along with comprehensive documentation that included recommendations on:- Safety analyses and requirements- Approach for further fatigue calculations- Functional requirements for the magnetic suspension system

In my role, I was responsible for managing multiple projects within the Communications 3mE department. Notable projects included:- Online Trail Study for Bachelor Mechanical Engineering: Developed and implemented a series of courses tailored for students in their final years of VWO (pre-university education).- Recruitment of New Students: Coordinated hiring efforts for promotional events organized by Communications 3mE, attracting prospective students.- Event Organization: Co-organized various events within and around the 3mE faculty, enhancing community engagement and promoting the department's initiatives.- Open days: I was responsible for the organization and coordination of the Open Days for the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, collaborating with a team of three students. Each event successfully attracted between 500 and 1,000 visitors, showcasing our program and engaging prospective students.

As a co-founder and secretary of the committee, I helped organize events to connect late Bachelor and Master students in Mechanical Engineering. Our goal was to create a network for guidance in selecting Master's programs.

The committee organized a charity run that raised over €5,000 with over 170 participants. I managed the promotional activities to attract participants.

This editorial team is responsible for publishing Slurf Magazine, which features technological articles and interesting facts. As an editor, I co-wrote, reviewed, and corrected articles, and also handled layout and standardization.

As president, I led my team in organizing a nine-day ski trip to Risoul, France, managing the timeline and budget for 85 participants.

Oversaw the operational performance of promotional teams at various locations, typically comprising 4-8 promoters.

Promoted various products (e.g., Starbucks Discoveries, Coca-Cola Zero, Duyvis) through sampling demonstrations aimed at branding rather than direct sales.

As part of a team of four, I researched a new principle of dynamic energy harvesting using a compliant system of springs with net zero stiffness and zero force configuration. This system serves as an alternative to piezoelectric harvesters.

Conducted research on agricultural export opportunities to stimulate the local economy in the Marowijne region of Suriname. This involved analyzing the export chain of agricultural products and gathering perspectives from key stakeholders, including government departments and local farmers. We provided essential recommendations on a viable business structure and identified potential challenges.
