Founder And Ceo Leslie'S Week; A Stage 4 Breast Cancer Nonprofit
CurrentLESLIE'S WEEK received 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017 GuideStar Platinum Level of Transparency Award.The Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine selected LESLIE'S WEEK as their 2017 "Community Breast Cancer Nonprofit of the Year". L'Oreal Paris selected Sandra Gunn in 2016 from 6,200 nominations to be one of their 10 Women of Worth, WOW's. In 2015 Sandra Gunn was selected as an honoree of the "one hundred". This award is created and supported by the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and is the highest form of recognition awarded by them. Each year they honor "100 Everyday Amazing Individuals and Groups whose commitment to fight against cancer inspires us all to take action." In 2014 the Gaeton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute honored Sandra Gunn with the "Fire and Soul" Award for, "The courage to look beyond oneself to bring joy to others". OUR BEGINNINGS:A collaboration began in 2011 with a WOMAN'S CANCER CENTER in hosting a 1-week vacation for 1 Stage 4 Breast Cancer women and her family. This is a time for the family to spend together so they may create Memories that Outlast Cancer. This is important for the children who are the "Watchers". In 2014 we became a 501 (c)(3) Nonprofit. In 2016 we grew to 18 Stage 4 MBC families. In 2017 we hosted a family at the Ranch at Laguna Beach, 2 families in Ocean City, and 20 families at the Dollywood DreamMore Resort. In 2018 we hosted 31 families at the DreamMore Resort in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains, in 2019 we selected 30 Honorees for our vacation away from cancer at the DreamMore Resort, 3 died two weeks before their vacation, 3 become too ill to attend. We hosted 24 2019 Honorees and 7 2018 Alums who attended at their own expense. WOW! We have 25 Alums returning in 2020 at their own expense and LESLIE'S WEEK hopes to have 35 honorees selected.
