Supervising Producer, Shaw TvShaw Communications Apr 2013 - 2017Vancouver, Canada AreaI led and worked alongside a multidisciplinary team of television producers and technicians in the creation of dynamic field and studio content. I assigned work plans, managed performance and provided support for development opportunities. The workflow of a television station can be hectic, and I have experience in planning ahead, assessing and resolving issues as they arise, managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines. I led the communications activities for our team, with oversight of community relations and business sponsorship; social media and promotional strategies; and content production.I have organized community and corporate events, and have led large-scale projects. I’m very proud of my role as Producer for Shaw on annual province-wide telethons (1999-2014) and activities during the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver (see more under Projects)My most recent projects included the revitalisation of Shaw TV-Vancouver’s Community Volunteer program, where I led a small team to design a robust database, develop procedural planning and launch an e-newsletter to link volunteers and staff. I also coordinated a national committee and authored a final report that recommended the functional redesign of Shaw TV’s regional websites.I built relationships with community organizations and local businesses to communicate their messages, and designed and implemented brand-conscious promotional strategies for Shaw TV initiatives through video content, social media platforms, web content & e-newsletters. I developed the promotional launches for four local television series, and brand realignment projects for two television stations. -
Supervising Producer, Shaw Multicultural ChannelShaw Communications May 1986 - 2017Vancouver, Canada AreaI had progressive responsibility for the overall operation of Shaw Multicultural Channel (originally Rogers Multicultural Channel) a local ethnic community television station operating in Metro Vancouver. As Supervising Producer, I led a staff team and provided ongoing client care for 35-40 independent contractors. My work with the channel included:• the review of submitted program proposals, and guidance to community producers• contract negotiations and content scheduling• promotion of television series and the channel brand through video content, social media platforms, web content and newsletters• development of new programming opportunities in coordination with the team• community relations with local multicultural organizations, viewers and customers• development, documentation and communication of guidelines and policies• issue management related to copyright, regulatory, technical and community standardsI developed large and small community partnerships, and was proud to be the Producer for Shaw for the annual A World of Smiles live fundraising telethon for BC Children’s Hospital (see more under Projects). I designed communication strategies for our sponsorship of events that included the Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration and initiatives such as Diversity Health Fairs.Favourite promotional projects that I have led included the introduction of a Shaw host for the channel, providing a ‘personality’ for on-air hits, storytelling and event attendance; and the development of the local series Our Canada, which gave the channel its own signature show with multicultural content drawn from Shaw TV stations across the country.
