Sania Khan Email and Phone Number
Sania Khan (they/she) is an award-winning social-digital justice advocate, cultural strategist and filmmaker based in Tkaronto/Toronto. Their interdisciplinary practice leverages digital innovation to build just and liberated futures, with particular focus on the nexus between healing justice, equitable placemaking and collective care ecosystems. They currently serve as Digital Justice Knowledge Lead with ArtsPond as part of their creative digital thought residency, Together There, which is a collaborative effort to envision a just digital future in Canadian arts and culture.Sania's creative practice as a filmmaker explores futurisms of collective care, safety and joy for systematically excluded communities. Their debut short experimental film, 'The Space In Between,' was selected by jurors as winner of the Visual Arts category at the Scarborough Arts' 36th Annual Juried Exhibition. They're currently a Digital Storytelling Mentor with RCAD Initiative, where they're facilitating programming for newcomer and refugee youth artists to engage with the tools and techniques needed to create impactful digital stories. Most recently, Sania has been weaving together their passion for human rights advocacy and digital storytelling as Founder and Executive Director of Solar House Productions (SHP). SHP’s mission is to cultivate a creative ecosystem in which pre/emerging filmmakers from marginalized backgrounds are able to receive professional development opportunities and claim their creative sovereignties as visual storytellers. As Founder and Lead Organizer of Scarborough Mutual Aid, Sania's community leadership efforts over the last two years have centred on cultivating interdependent care systems for marginalized communities residing in Scarborough who have been disproportionately affected by the covid-19 pandemic. They are deeply invested in re-imagining urban futures to ensure that the needs of systematically marginalized communities are prioritized throughout and beyond this moment.
