I am a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist (Acting) currently working at the Departments of Cardiology, Teaching Hospital Jaffna and Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura Sri Lanka. I began my local training in Paediatric Cardiology after successfully completing my postgraduate MD (Paediatrics) Part II examination in March 2021. I commenced my career as a senior house officer in Paediatric Surgery in 2015 after completing my internship in General Paediatrics and General Surgery in 2014/2015 before entering the MD Paediatric course in 2017. I completed 2 years of local training as a senior registrar in Paediatric Cardiology and worked as an acting Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children for 10 months before I was transferred to Teaching Hospital Jaffna. My cardiology unit in Lady Ridgeway hospital is the only unit in the country which caters cardiac surgeries for congenital heart diseases in Sri Lanka. The department runs clinics daily and annually serves more than 10000 patients, whilst performing around 1100 cardiac caths and 700 cardiac surgeries. During my training, I have gathered many skills required in performing echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, and in the management of pre- and post-operative care of cardiac patients. As my unit drains cardiac patients from the entire island, it has provided me with countless opportunities to clinically image and manage patients with various congenital and acquired heart diseases. I am an avid reader, and I enjoy learning around my patients while using basic principles, up to date texts and publications for problem solving. Furthermore, I am especially interested in research activities involving paediatric cardiology. I have published several case reports in general and surgical pediatrics and I’m a member of the reviewer panel in Pediatric Oncall journal, India. Apart from my interest in mastering paediatric cardiology, I have engaged in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees in various settings. I have special interest in statistics, and I am an internationally recognized statistician appreciated by University of California at Berkeley, USA. It is my pleasure to teach statistics to my students as well as cardiology. I also help my colleagues with their research in the background of statistics.
