I assisted the paralegals and attorneys in the Real Estate Tax practice group at Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP primarily with property assessment reduction cases. I complied evidence for property assessment reductions as part of appeal submissions to various Illinois county assessors, Illinois Board of Review and Property Tax Appeal Board. I also drafted appeal briefs on residential property assessment reductions appeals submitted at the Cook County Assessor's Office. I also gathered and formatted evidence of property assessment reduction appeals submitted as part of tax objection cases in circuit court.

The Student Activities Funding Committee (SAFC) is responsible with meeting periodically with student organizations of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and hearing their respective budget requests. As part of the SAFC, I and my fellow committee members analyze the budget proposals made by these student organizations and ensure they conform to University rules and regulations in order to allocate them the appropriate funds.

As a legal assistant at MLS Law Group, LLC., a real estate and immigration law firm, I reported directly to the in-house attorney regarding updates on residential property transaction files. This includes settings up files for new contracts and cases, keeping track of relevant dates in transaction such as attorney review period, mortgage contingencies, and closing, ordering residential title, drafting closing documents such as affidavits of title, bills of sale, and deeds. I maintained all interface between attorneys, title insurance companies, brokers, loan officers, and individual buyers and sellers for all the relevant processes from file opening until closing.

My role as General Office Assistant in the Student Employment Office was mainly processing human resources procedures related to undergraduate employees. These procedures included processing various complex undergraduate employee transactions through Human Resources Front End system and Oracle Fusion MiddleWare Forms Services and process undergraduate employee work authorization documents through Form I-9 system. Related to these human resources duties was approving higher level student employee positions as well as advising and assisting students and employers about the Student Employment Office and hiring procedures. Everyday office duties included coordinating the maintenance of record keeping and filing systems; operating duplicating and other office machines; assisting in taking inventories and ordering supplies; answering telephones, providing information, and arranging appointments for supervisor.

As a JusticeCorps member, my main task with my team was to provide free legal aid services and information to patrons of all socio-economic backgrounds at the Richard J. Daley Center in Chicago. This included communicating and providing guidance to patrons in both English and Spanish and answering general questions regarding certain legal processes and directing patrons to appropriate legal resources.
