As a student in the FRI biomedical chemistry stream I worked with a small team conducting literature research in the biomedical chemistry field and conducting research in lab searching for the location of the third sodium binding site on glutamate transporter GLT-1. We utilized techniques such as data collection, performing literature searches and organizing presentations as well as experience with techniques such as PCR, site-directed mutagenesis, transient transfection, plasmid manipulation and standard lab practices and safety protocols.

Interned in graduate laboratory with the Microbiology and Environmental Science departments. Aided research into invasive phragmites' effect of native species' population, as well as how a phragmite-killing fungi affects the overall population of the species in Chesapeake Bay. Reported data to the USDA.
