Big Brothers, Big Sisters is a non-profit organization serving 10 counties in Western North Carolina. In the position of After School program coordinator I recruit, match and support volunteer mentors matched with children in a long term relationship. BBBS partners with City of Asheville Parks and Recreation department to provide mentors to children in their After School care programs. Coordinating this utilizes my skills at networking, communication through various means, interviewing and building a relationship with volunteers, children and families, staff at various recreation sites. People make my job a pleasure!This position has tapped and enhanced my skills as supervisor, coordinator, connector and program developer. I have fostered and strengthened networks between Asheville City Parks and Recreation, community partners and individuals. This network extends to volunteers from UNCA, Warren Wilson College and the Asheville community at large.Earlier experience through Americorps as Volunteer Coordinator at Vance Elementary resulted in increased community partnerships, volunteer and parent involvement in school events and in the classroom. Even earlier professional experiences as a healthcare practitioner have exercised my ability to solve problems and get results, communication and collaboration within a team, creating and expanding a network of resources pertinent to organizational goals.
