As the Vice President of Administration for the Lucy Burns Institute I distilled complex projects down to their component pieces and ensured that priorities were met. I served as the main point of HR contact within the organization and took pleasure in answering questions and helping my co-workers.

I served as a Senior Writer and the Interim-Managing Editor of Judgepedia, organizing content areas, projects and staff, along with performing research and writing about the American judiciary for the site. I learned a tremendous amount about the inner workings of the federal judicial system in particular, and quite a bit about a variety of states as well.

As the Director of WikiFOIA I originated the site wikifoia.pbwiki.com, which later morphed into a portal on the site Ballotpedia. I developed content on the Freedom of Information Act (or variations thereof) for each of the 50 states along with the District of Columbia. This crowd-sourcing approach to disseminating knowledge about complex elements of citizen involvement with public bodies was the prototype for Ballotpedia.org and Judgepedia.org.

I was involved with Madison's roller derby league, the Mad Rollin' Dolls, for six years both on and off the track. I was a member of several committees including Charitable Donations and Finance, along with writing for the MRD blog. As a member of the Finance Committee I single-handedly created and maintained the system for dues collection that is used to this day. On the track, I skated my heart out for the Unholy Rollers.

Citizens in Charge was an adventure! I traveled quite a bit administering the books and generally keeping things organized for several petition drives. Working on the road was a challenge and I was able to greatly improve my communication, efficiency and people skills.

This position is what jump started my career in administration. I started with Tishman Speyer as a temp worker in the property management office of a large building in downtown Chicago, and was hired on as the office manager of a building in Lisle, IL. This is the time when I discovered that my affinity for organization and love of to-do lists, calendars and spreadsheets are not shared by the world at large, and that I could use those skills to provide valued service that was fun for me.

The University Club is a unique and wonderful private restaurant for students and employees of the University of Wisconsin - Madison. During my tenure there I hired new staff, set schedules, planned events and waited tables. I still run into university staff that I met from this job around town, and it's always a pleasure to reminisce about the UClub.
