To put it simply and succinctly, my passion is people. Community and being a valuable and productive actor within that community plays a large role in motivating my career, academic, and personal choices. I strive to translate my skills and education into real-world aid to the communities in which I have had the opportunity to grow. With every endeavor I seek to centralize the human quotient, ensuring that I am enhancing people’s experiences and well-being. As an MLIS student at the University of Washington, I am working to develop critical skills in the responsible and accountable stewardship of records and archival documents in service of marginalized communities, library and reference service for creating safe information spaces, and metadata and knowledge organization structures for the ethical maintenance of information. As an Anthropology and Women’s Studies double major at the University of Florida I successfully coalesced my passion for academia and learning with my passion for people. My academic background has not only strengthened my oratory and written communication, critical thinking, and research skills but has also fostered a deep-seated set of interpersonal skills, with team-based learning positively impacting my experience and ability to communicate and problem-solve with team-mates. with my nexus of study focused on people (particularly underrepresented and marginalized communities), the issues affecting them, and meaningful, critical paths forward, I want to continue my academic work by translating my dedication to bettering the community (in whatever broadly-configured mode that may take shape) into my career opportunities. Outside of my academic and work life, I enjoy embroidery, sketching, reading fantasy novels (I’m just now beginning The Game of Thrones novels), and I’m hoping to get into loom weaving soon, as well! Overall, I want to lead a well-balanced, creative, and meaningful life which abides by my community-based values.
