My current work at Barr consists primarily of managing environmental assessment and remediation projects at Superfund sites and brownfield redevelopments. I have worked extensively with both private sector and public clients to address soil and/or groundwater contamination issues. My current work includes serving as project manager and directing Barr’s work on a wide-ranging, multi-media remedial investigation, feasibility study, and interim response action involving the presence of PFAS at a project in the United States. I recently served as project manager for the most complex vapor intrusion project in Minnesota. The project involved the collection of samples to analyze for the presence of trichloroethene (TCE) including sub-slab soil gas samples from beneath over 300 homes and buildings, and collection of indoor and outdoor air samples from certain buildings. Vapor mitigation systems have been installed in approximately 180 buildings. The majority of the sampling and mitigation work was completed in less than one year. Responsibilities included overall project management, including coordination of up to 50 Barr staff members, communications with the client, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders, and response action implementation reporting.

Performed and managed work on contaminated site assessment and remediation projects. My primary project during this time period was managing the investigation and cleanup of the New Brighton Exchange brownfields redevelopment area in New Brighton, MN, an inner ring suburb of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Legacy environmental issues in the 100-acre redevelopment area included two former dumps, a former oil refinery, a former solvent-recycling facility, railroad spurs, rendering plants, an asphalt mixing facility, and multiple leaking underground storage tank sites. Helped our client secure $9.6 million in grant funding to complete the $16.2 million dollar cleanup in support of nearly complete redevelopment of the area.Other focus areas included managing Superfund sites in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area with ongoing groundwater pump and treat systems and/or monitoring of groundwater impacts due to historic wood treating operations or solvent use, investigation and cleanup of former dumps, and Phase I environmental site assessments.

I worked with project teams to address petroleum-impacted soil and groundwater contamination associated with LUST sites at retail gasoline stations. Assisted with the design and operation of SVE systems and groundwater pump and treat systems and prepared groundwater monitoring and O&M reports.
