About Sara Wright

Sara Wright is a visual artist with a contemporary social practice. Her approach to all things in life is creative and she is committed to living, working and connecting as a creative being. Her socially engaged practice moves to collectively re-imagine and heal the public places we live in together, by re-awakening the innate human ability for creativity and our healing relationship with nature. By acknowledging the sensory in her personal art practice, and the inherent qualities of being human—that life and art are one and the same—she finds the surface of our contemporary society becomes disrupted, and beautifully remade to reflect deeper connections, broader ecologies. She works with material alchemy through moving image, performance, sound, ceramic and creative play. Her skills include installation, craft, movement and moving image, co-producing and collaborating on projects and performances with community, and creating contemporary, socially-engaged contexts for interaction and democracy.Sara founded Silver Lining Projects in 2012 to encapsulate a co-producing, collaborative practice working for heath and humanism, adaptation and resilience. She is currently Artist in Residence at the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department, working with staff and community to make it a more human experience, and the MONA 24 Carrot Gardens Project, 24cg.mona.net.au, designing and delivering art experiences for children. Sara has worked for several large contemporary art institutions including the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Arts Tasmania and the Newcastle Art Gallery in large creative, public program and project managing and installation roles. She works as a creative mentor and has demonstrated engagement with the art and design sector as a tertiary art teacher of Ceramic Art and Design, and has served on the boards of Designed Objects Tasmania, and Constance Artist Run Initiative. She is the recipient of the MONA Scholarship and numerous government grants.

As an artist, she is the recipient of the MONA Scholarship and numerous grants. Sara worked as an artist and the Community Engagement Coordinator for a community dance project about death combining Mature Artist Dance Experience (MADE) and Hospice Volunteers. In 2012 she was invited to work as an artist during the November Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine in Hobart. She is currently the Artist in Residence at the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department, working with staff, patients and their family/carers to explore how they can improve the Emergency Department experience.
