CurrentSara Wright is an artist, designer, curator and Hospice volunteer. Her social art practice includes making, collaborating and facilitating contemporary, socially engaged artforms. Her social art practice includes making, collaborating and facilitating contemporary, socially engaged artforms. Sara has worked for several large contemporary art institutions including Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Arts Tasmania and the Newcastle Region Art Gallery in large project managing roles. Following the young death of her brother in 2007 from cancer, she has become interested in creating socially engaged artwork involving the communities around palliative and acute care settings. As an artist, she is the recipient of the MONA Scholarship and numerous grants. Sara worked as an artist and the Community Engagement Coordinator for a community dance project about death combining Mature Artist Dance Experience (MADE) and Hospice Volunteers. In 2012 she was invited to work as an artist during the November Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine in Hobart. She is currently the Artist in Residence at the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department, working with staff, patients and their family/carers to explore how they can improve the Emergency Department experience.
