I have been in the communications field for over 25 years. Like most young journalists, I got my start at a small town newspaper - writing about big vegetables, county fairs and the stories the more seasoned writers didn't want. My first feature was on a man who invented a lawn mower that mowed by itself (in case you're wondering, he attached one end of a rope to a post in the center of his yard, the other to the lawnmower, and it just went around in circles as the rope wrapped around the post. He was offended when I asked him how he got the corners). I went on to trade magazines, writing about art materials (you know, paint brushes, pens, canvases and so on) and later life insurance.Although by this time I had earned my masters degree in journalism, I decided to take a break from print publications and try my hand at corporate communications at MCI (pre-Bernie Ebbers). The job started as a writing position with newsletters, sales literature and other collateral - it morphed into running the creative side of sales contests and recognition events. It was a fast-paced, ever changing, think on your feet, somewhat stressful environment and I loved it.After MCI was sold to WorldCom in 1998, I sensed the changing work environment and also wanted a break from the fast pace of the corporate world. I left the company and started freelancing. For the last 18 years, I've created content for magazines, newsletters, websites and brochures - mainly for nonprofit organizations. The thing I love the most about writing is you can always learn something - whether it's about a person, an object or a trend. And bringing those stories to life - yes, even a paint brush can be interesting - is what writing is all about.

I help organizations - mainly nonprofits - tell their stories through magazine and newsletter articles, web copy and annual reports. My clients include the Arthritis Foundation, Camp Sunshine, Shepherd Center, the Georgia Council on Economic Education and others. I enjoy telling stories that inform and inspire, and help promote an organization's cause.
I use my writing skills, attention to detail and knowledge of grammar and style (AP and Chicago Manual of Style) to edit and proofread newsletters, magazines, manuscripts, promotional materials and reports so they are easy to read, consistent and error-free. I specialize in working with designers to catch any errors and inconsistencies before the piece goes to print.
