I am a senior at the University of Rhode Island working towards my bachelor's in Human Development and Family Sciences with a minor in Leadership Studies. I am passionate about community health and looking to work on local efforts to support healthful practices where people live, work, learn, and play. Volunteering with the Lynn Community Health Center in Massachusetts opened my eyes to the need for access to fresh produce. As an intern with Salem Sound Coastwatch, I examined coastal inundation maps and the impact of sea-level rise on communities along the Northshore. Working for Humphries lab revealed the direct correlation between sustainable farming and aquaculture practices, community education and outreach, and improved health as it relates to nutrition. As a student in Children and Families in Poverty at URI, I learned about the realities of poverty at a local and national level and how our society's attitude towards poverty are detrimental to systemic change. Through the Center for Student Leadership Development I developed my personal leadership style through assessment and application of strengths and values, theoretical analysis, and small group facilitation. As a member of the Harbor Church and a believer in Jesus, I have experienced rich relationships and a commitment from my community.When looking ahead to graduation and the career to come, I find myself eager to put my passions in practice. I am committed to leading locally with goal of long-term change at the community level.
