I lead the Spencer Fellowship for Education Reporting, a year-long immersive fellowship for journalists and educators who want to develop and publish an ambitious long-form journalism project that advances public understanding of education.

After spending seven years leading and editing reporting teams at the Boston Globe and Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, I returned to freelance and contract work in the spring of 2021. 'Hope Against Hope' followed a principal, teacher, and family in the post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans schools.Selected as campus-wide read at Tulane University and Macalester College.

Write and edit magazine and radio reports for nonprofit education journalism news service based at Columbia University. Stories published in the Atlantic magazine, Time, the Miami Herald, New Orleans public radio, NBCNews.com, and numerous other media outlets.

Taught “The Kids’ Story,” an undergraduate journalism seminar that scrutinized American inequality—in the education, health care and immigration systems—through the lens of children and teenagers.
