I have worked individually and with the EGI research team to assess the economic and community impact of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant closure in Southwest Michigan. This research kickstarts an unprecedented approach to gauging economic shocks and its ripple effects into the economic system. My team and I assessed the impact on diverse sectors using quantitative IMPLAN and Lightcast data as well as qualitative informational interviews. I analyzed the Lightcast data and interviewed diverse professionals within multiple sectors. Additionally, I outlined and wrote sections within the impact assessment document.

Conducted a greenhouse gas inventory for the Upper Snake River Tribes. This work includes data collection, creating figures, and data assessment which contributes to a Priority Climate Action Plan which will be submitted for federal funding.

I analyzed GIS Census data to locate neighborhoods in food deserts for potential future community garden sites. I worked to start the Fair Oaks Community Garden and build the capacity of the Riverside Neighborhood Community Garden. I provided educational, funding, and organizational support to two new community garden sites. Additionally, I taught community leadership classes to garden volunteers and a Natural Dyes class at the Cobb Senior Center. Throughout the year, I regularly facilitated meetings with community leaders to set community driven goals and timelines. I regularly coordinated volunteer workdays to meet project goals while adapting to COVID-19 safety guidelines.

For my senior thesis, I worked with Trees Atlanta to explore how social-ecological factors influence young planted tree survival. I collected 38 GIS variables with multiple types of GIS data and compared survival with RMark, a program in R which compares daily survival models. I presented the preliminary results at a public Lunch and Learn. My research was accepted into American Association of Geographers Annual Meeting Conference (which was cancelled due to COVID-19 shutdowns).

Atlanta

I volunteered to research the distributional equity of environmental services within Atlanta. I compared the locations of tree plantings, percent tree canopy cover, and Census data by block group. In ArcMap I calculated the Census data and used geographically weighted regression to compare the different layers of data. At the end of my research, I presented my findings to the Trees Atlanta staff.
