I became a lawyer to help people and I have achieved this by assisting clients through some of their darkest times following major health and safety incidents. Receiving a call to assist in the middle of the night or over the weekend has not been usual for me. Some high profile matters I have assisted clients with include the Beaconsfield Goldmine Collapse, the Montara Oil Spill, the BHP Billiton fatal accidents in 2004 and 2008/9, the Bennett Street double fatality and the Mosman Park Shopping Centre Fatality. I have worked with clients to manage the legal ramifications of incidents including interactions with regulators, incident investigations, prosecutions, coronial inquests and subsequent civil claims.Over the past decade an increasing area of focus of my work has been to assist clients managing mental health in the workplace. I am passionate about getting this right and have investigated allegations of bullying, harassment, discrimination and intimidation as safety matters with a view to establishing systems to prevent future risky behaviour. In addition, I have worked with clients responding to regulatory investigations into psychosocial allegations and challenging Improvement Notices which were impossible to comply with.My focus for over 25 years has been to assist businesses, undertakings and individuals understand their responsibilities and to ensure learnings are taken from incidents and regulatory interaction, so sustainable safe systems can be implemented to manage risks in the workplace and their use verified. Some of the clients I have worked with include: Northern Star, KCGM, Synergy, Badge Construction, Axedale Holdings, BHP Billiton, and PTTEP.On 1 September 2020, I started my own business, Sarah Harrison Consulting, with the purpose of providing clients with simple and practical work health and safety legal advice in a caring and compassionate manner. I have continued to work with clients on major health and safety incidents, prosecutions, regulatory and coronial investigations, civil claims and providing WHS legal obligations training.I thrive on assisting clients to understand and meet their health and safety legal obligations in a sustainable way. I do this by offering WHS law training courses to ensure everyone in a workplace understands their roles in ensuring workplace safety and is committed to meeting their duties. I also assist clients to investigate, learn from and make necessary changes when workplace incidents do unfortunately take place.
