I was taken on to assist in the development of the UI of their Human Resources product, SelectHR. I had to switch from using VB.NET to C#, plus really work on my CSS and HTML front end skills. I helped to develop the next update to the UI, and then moved on to develop new features and add new functionality to the overall product. Fresh out of University I had to setup a centralised IT system for a furniture franchise, based in South East Kent. Opting for a Terminal Services environment, Head Office could have overall control of the hardware and software used by each franchisee, by installing a rack of servers, and Sage Accounting Software. I wrote a custom Reporting Solution in Java, to allow each franchisee to obtain daily sales and accounting information from their system. Using Cisco hardware, namely the ASA Appliance I was able to add increased security, and implemented a SSL VPN so each depot could access their data securely.My next big project was to architect and develop an Online Ordering system for a furniture manufacturer to superceed the version they currently had in place. This system allows their retailer base, nationwide, to order the furniture through a system they could control. This was written bespokely using ASP.NET WebForms, VB.NET, and MySQL (an unusual mix)! The solution has developed with the furniture products they sell over time, to give the user complete flexibility for the products they can order. This is used daily, and taking around £1 million worth of orders each month.Physical to Virtual Infrascture move. I ran the project to upgrade a clients physical infrascture to a new VMWare Environment, using a HP MSA for data storage, whilst upgrading all internal servers to the latest edition of Windows Server. After many pilot trials, we managed to successfully make this switch, overnight, so all users the next morning were none the wiser and there was no downtime experienced by the client.Cisco VoIP Upgrade. Crown had an existing early 3Com telephone system which they wanted to upgrade, to utilise the latest in VoIP telephony. We decided on a Cisco VoIP telephone system, which I planned and implemented.
