I am a graduate student at Washington State University currently pursuing a M.S. degree in the School of Biological Sciences. My area of expertise is disease ecology and evolution, and I currently work in the laboratory of Dr. Jesse Brunner. We are currently investigating how co-infection with two strains of Ranavirus influences the evolutionary fitness and virulence of both pathogens.I have a wide range of teaching experience in the field of biology. In my senior year of undergraduate education, I led 3 recitations per week for the General Biochemistry course for University of Missouri-Kansas City's Supplemental Instruction. Throughout graduate school at WSU, I've taught the laboratory portion of 2 different courses: Introductory Biology for Non-Majors (4 semesters) and General Ecology (1 semester). Interacting with undergraduate students, particularly freshman, has inspired me to pursue a career in upper-level secondary biology education. I want to inspire high school students to seek careers in science, and introduce them to investigative learning practices to better prepare them for the changing realities of college science education. I will be seeking a position in secondary science education after I graduate with my M.S. in Biology in December 2015.
