Sarah Pilkington is an interdisciplinary artist who specializes in mixed media art, sculpture, and dance. She received her BA in Studio Arts with minors in Dance and Drama from UNC Greensboro. As a student, she participated in many projects from various departments. Sarah was a makeup artist for UNCG Theatre’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream", and the Hair and Makeup designer for "Night of the Living Dead", in which she designed individual looks for each character. As a dancer, she performed at The Flat Iron and LeBauer Park of Greensboro with her Performative Salsa classmates, and was chosen by Zoia Cisneros to perform in her MFA Thesis. Art projects include the creation of three sculptures in collaboration with the Creative Aging Network of NC, and an independent Honors project acting as a senior capstone. The Honors project was developed over the course of two semesters, consisting of mixed media works that acted as a visual autobiography. Growing up, Sarah was trained in classical dance forms at the Academy for the Performing Arts, owned by Hillary Parnell. She focused mainly on ballet, jazz, contemporary/lyrical, and musical theatre dance styles. She also participated in four musicals throughout high school as swings and supporting characters. During her college career, she had a very special opportunity to study art history and drawing in Florence, Italy. Sarah’s current job and passion is as a teaching assistant for Salsa, as a part of Gate City Latin Dance. She greatly enjoys connecting with the Latin dance community, and had the honor of designing GCLD’s logo. Sarah likes to keep an open mind when it comes to the arts and wears many hats as a painter, sculptor, digital artist, classical and social dancer, performer, teacher, and more.
