Through my internship at DPS, I worked on marijuana education, sex education, Sources of Strength (a prevention group focused on pro-social behavior and acts of kindness), Gender and Sexuality Alliance, and Learning to Breathe, a mindfulness curriculum aimed at making coping and self-soothing skills accessible to adolescents. These programs are funded by the CDE Grant, paid for by state taxes on Marijuana. This role gave me a chance to practice my multicultural and anti-oppressive skills with youth who have experienced immigration. I learned how to use agency and grant-based documentation skills as well as build powerful presentations in English and Spanish.

This position is responsible for performing the tasks of supervising visits between a child and an adult and ensuring safety (physical, mental, and emotional) for the child, and in some cases, an adult victim. The parenting time supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Supervised Parenting Time and Safe Exchange Programs. Within this position, I worked to create a trauma-free and informed environment for all parties, worked directly with parents and children of all ages, and used an objective, strengths-based approach. This position included the overview of case notes, objective use of written communication, crisis intervention, and de-escalation technique.

Sorters are members of a team responsible for sorting through produce, dry goods, and baked goods donations and storing them in the correct warehouse location. A more physically active role than others | Restockers are responsible for keeping aspects of the market full, beautiful, and abundant. Restockers work in teams of two to restock produce, dry goods, and the freezer/cooler | Cart attendants are responsible for helping participants out to their cars with their groceries and for keeping the parking lot and grounds clean during their volunteer shift. Ability to lift 35 pounds | Customer service volunteers are responsible for being able to assist participants in the market by answering questions, helping find products on shelves, and helping participants with disabilities or children in the market.
