Spring 2019, I started a chapter of CHAARG within Temple University. CHAARG stands for Changing Health, Attitudes, and Actions, to Recreate Girls. CHAARG is a health and fitness organization aimed to help students explore different outlets of fitness that go beyond a campus gym. As a founding ambassador, I manage a group of 6 executive board members, hold weekly meetings, and maintain organization, retention, and recruitment of a growing health and fitness organization on Temple Campus!

From 2019 to 2021, I served as a research assistant at the Center for Substance Abuse Research within the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University under researcher Dr. Scott Rawls. As a research assistant in Dr. Scott Rawls Substance Abuse Lab, I work with a particular drug called mitragynine. On the day-to-day, I observe planarian response to differing concentrations of mitragynine and record the pharmacological effects of the drug on light taxis and substance withdrawal. On June 2021, I became first-author of the manuscript titled “Kratom pharmacology: Clues from planarians exposed to mitragynine”.

As a volunteer at the Shriners Hospital for Children, I communicate with children, families, and physicians to provide the highest quality of care for those undergoing orthopedic conditions and other complex surgical needs. Being a volunteer at Shriners has taught me the importance of being a friend to these kids who are suffering the most lifeless experiences. As a volunteer, I try to give these kids an escape from their reality.

As a volunteer, I converse with patients, organize clinical documents and equipment, conduct infection control audits, transport patients, prepare patient rooms, interact with hospital staff including physicians, nurses and advanced practices providers, etc.

As an academic coach for GEAR UP, I work with high schoolers in any of the classes they may have trouble on ranging from Biology to History to Mathematics. I also help with college coaching, helping the students transition from high school to college with assistance in tools such as Naviance.
