Phd StudentUniversity Of Bristol Oct 2011 - May 2015Bristol, GbThesis entitled ‘The Mechanisms of Opioid Tolerance’.My thesis focused on the involvement of protein kinase C (PKC) in the development and maintenance of opioid induced tolerance by looking at acute desensitisation, cellular tolerance, respiratory depression and locomotor activity. Interestingly, opioid tolerance has previously been shown to be reversed by low concentrations of ethanol and it has been postulated that PKC may play a role in this potentially lethal interaction.Throughout my PhD I developed expertise in a variety of fields including pharmacology, electrophysiology, behavioral techniques and neuroscience. Specific skills and techniques include: opioid receptor pharmacology, patch clamp electrophysiology, in vivo biology, whole animal plethysmography, locomotor activity, confocal microscopy, tissue culture and western blotting.

In Vitro Imaging Scientist (Professional Training)Gsk Aug 2009 - Aug 2010Brentford, Middlesex, GbWorked as an in vitro scientist at the GSK Clinical Imaging Centre.
