For the past three years, I have served as a staff member for the Legislative Houses program area of California YMCA Youth & Government. Their Model Legislature and Court program serves over 3,300 high school students in the State of California every year, providing a hands-on learning experience that teaches the students about California's state legislature and courts system, allowing them to develop leadership, public speaking, and organizing skills, while learning the importance of civic engagement and social activism. As a Legislative Houses staff member, our staff team oversees over 700 students each year as Senators and Assemblymembers. I work with elected officers, appointed committee chairs, and have served as the lead staff member for the Budget Conference Committee simulation program each year at the program's Sacramento conference.

Responsibilities include recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to expand the volunteer networks; managing and executing earned media tactics such as phone banks, voter registration drives, visibility events, Congressional district office visits, and press conferences; implementing a digital organizing program in California's 21st Congressional District, including collecting video footage of local supporters, linking local groups with the campaign through social media, bringing in volunteers from digital leads, and building a network of volunteers along with a strong digital presence for the campaign; and identifying office space for district field offices, and assisting in overseeing the general day-to-day administration of the field offices.

In June 2016, I was elected to a one-year term as Advocacy Officer for the California State Student Association (CSSA), the recognized voice of over 460,000 California State University students comprising the largest university system in the United States. I supported campuses with advocacy efforts, fostered systemwide collaboration, supported the development and implementation of advocacy policy initiatives, coordinated regular lobby visits, both in-district and at the state capitol, and chaired the CSSA Advocacy Committee. In addition to these responsibilities, I was also the main organizer for the 2016 California Higher Education Student Summit (CHESS). As a member of CSSA, I also sat on the Social Justice and Equity Council, Legislative Affairs Committee, and Student Trustee Committee. I additionally chaired the Ad-Hoc Committee on Research and Assessment.

The CSU General Education Advisory Committee is comprised of approximately 20 members, including California State University and California College faculty, staff, and administrators, and 2 student representatives who each serve 1-year terms. The General Education Advisory Committee reviews and proposes and necessary revisions in the objectives, requirements, and implementation of General Education Breadth policy to ensure high-quality general education, studies general education policies and practice inside and outside of the system, and, as appropriate, stimulates intersegmental discussion of the development of general education curricula. It additionally reviews the implications of CSU General Education Breadth policy for students transferring to the CSU, and to the institutions from which they transfer, proposes any necessary adjustments to pertinent policies and practices. Finally, it reports as appropriate to the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees.

Associated Students College Representatives serve as the collective voice to the University for all students within their respective colleges and work for the preservation of academic freedom and defense of student rights. Serving on the AS University Council and the College of Arts and Letters Student Council, I am tasked with representing the interests and needs of my college and being active in the areas of academic programs, curriculum and student development, as well as developing and voting on policy position and student perspective resolutions on behalf of the organization. As an AS council member, I am responsible for reaching out to student organizations, helping market the organization, attending cultural events on campus, and planning events for my college. During my term, I have voted on and provided testimony on resolutions, held forums for students in my college, helped organize events to enrich the academic experience of students in the college, and organized a philanthropy event to encourage our students to give back to the community.

I was asked to serve on SDSU’s Economic Crisis Response Team, a university-designated team that addresses students undergoing financial hardships. The team provides resources to these students, and coordinates with outside social services to transition these students to permanent assistance.

As an Associated Students College Representative, I was appointed to sit on the SDSU Student Grievance Committee to represent the student voice. The Student Grievance Committee is chartered under the SDSU Academic Senate, operated by the Office of the Ombudsman, and comprised of administrators, professors, and students. The SGC exists to give students a last attempt to resolve conflicts including, but not limited to, disputes over grades, course requirements, faculty or staff conduct, fines, and administrative policies and procedures. Through serving on fact-finding subcommittees, discussing cases at regular committee meetings, proposing alternative resolutions, and voting during hearings, I am tasked with ensuring that both the grievant and the respondent's viewpoints are heard to make a fair, just decision on the case.

As Legislative Research Associate, I chaired Lobby Corps, a committee designated to make contact with local San Diego legislators and lobby for higher education issues, and provided research to External Relations Board to facilitate involvement in government relations for Associated Students. As Legislative Research Associate, I was part of the appointed leadership of Associated Students' External Relations Board, and I stayed on the board the year after I left this position. After joining Lobby Corps in August 2013, was appointed as the next Lobby Corps Chair in May 2014, and reappointed the next year. During my two years in this position, I worked closely with two AS Vice Presidents of External Relations to provide input on policy positions, advocacy strategies, and legislative priorities. In this role, I coordinated district visits, trained committee members, oversaw the planning of SDSU's first-ever Aztec Government Outreach Day, and trained the 2016 SDSU California Higher Education Student Summit delegation.

As SDSU Associated Students' Sexual Violence Research Coordinator, I provided legislative research to assist in the planning and execution of "Take Back the Week", an activist campaign to address sexual assault on campus.

I was responsible for managing groups of 15-30 children from ages 5-17 during daily camp activities. I was the coordinator for the daily lunch program, for which I managed inventory, communicated with vendors, ensured that health protocols were being followed, and interacted with campers and members of the public daily.

As an intern, I worked with a small group of high school freshman and helped them to write a piece of model legislation that they then presented to a group of over 100 other students. I assisted them in developing public speaking and debate skills, speechwriting, and research. In addition, I assisted the program as a whole with general logistical needs.
